Empty beaches and perfect waves at our front door.
Come and explore our coastline…
Northern Nicaragua Surf
There are but a few corners of the globe left that have uncrowded, world-class waves, and northern Nicaragua is one of them. Surfers have traveled to Nicaragua for decades, but they predominately stick to the southern beaches due to the easy access and proximity to the Costa Rican border. Northern Nicaragua has remained lightly trekked compared to its neighbors. With waves for every level of surfer, there’s no better place to experience the surf in Nicaragua.
World-class Waves on our Doorstep
Why Is It Called The Boom?
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Our Home Breaks
Our clifftop surf resort sits on a rocky point that splits the beach in two. A short 5-minute walk from the south side of the point will take you to the Boom, the region's most celebrated heavy wave. We have two beginner-friendly waves just below our surf resort on the northside of the point. Further north, there’s a handful of intermediate and beginner waves that we take guests to daily. For advanced surfers, we take regular boat trips to the various points and river mouths in the area.
The Boom
Fast breaking, hollow, and picture-perfect—the Boom breaks with a thunderous roar (hence the name) without a drop of water out of place. The Boom works best on small to medium size swells with light or offshore wind. As is the case with many world-class waves, the Boom occasionally collects a tax in the form of broken boards. If you’re here to surf the Boom, pack a few boards.
La Isla
About half a mile offshore, a small, narrow barrier island situated just off the river mouth produces a left-hand point break that can hold serious size. La Isla is not as steep or as critical of a wave as the Boom, but it is the spot to be for larger swells. When La Isla is firing, we take a boat from the estuary and surf till we’ve had our fill.
Nahualapa
A favorite surf spot for intermediates and longboarders, Playa Nahualapa churns out perfect peelers during the Dry Season (November-April) and is a go-to spot for surf lessons. In the Rainy Season (May-October), Nahualapa turns into a fun, yet challenging beach break. In the right conditions, Nahualapa works like a right-hand pointbreak.
Amaru Beach
Amaru Beach is just a short walk down the stairs from our clifftop wellness resort. The waves at Amaru Beach are gentle and beginner-friendly. During larger swells, a playful left peels from the cliff towards the middle of the beach.
Aposentillo
Aposentillo is a beginner-friendly beach break tucked away where the palm trees melt into the ocean. Only a short walk from Amaru, beginners can practice pop-ups and master riding down the line, whiIe advanced surfers can find fun peaks further down the beach.
Da Rivermouth
There are still quite a few Northern Nicaraguan surf breaks that only a handful of surfers know about. We love to explore by car and boat with our guests to find uncrowded peaks and pioneer the untapped potential of our beautiful coastline.
Jiquilillo
The day trip to Jiquillio is one of our guests’ favorite adventures. 20 km away, Jiquillio breaks similarly to the Boom during the swell season but softens up to a loggable wave at high tide in the offseason. Dozens of peaks and hardly ever another surfer in sight.
